No matter how much time goes by, I still LOVE the Barbie aisle at Toys 'R Us!
It's so deliciously girly, cheerfully pink, and conjures up pre-teen memories of endless Barbie sessions where my friends and I would let our Barbie dolls live out all of our dreams.
Today, that Barbie is still an icon and is the epitome of "Be all that you can be". She has been successful at a multitude of careers (doctor, lawyer, nurse, etc.), has had babies, AND she's been to the Moon and back! She's had Ferrari's, boats, planes and several dream houses. I STILL want to be like Barbie when I grow up - she is the BOMB!

In honor of 50 fruitful years (complete with 13-year old waist size), Mattel is giving
Her Royal Pinkness a year-long, global birthday celebration! They will host a series of pink-carpet events in major global cities, and will launch new and exciting collaborations with everyone from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and designer Jonathan Adler, to Bloomingdales, Stila and even the all-mighty Facebook community!! This celebration will rival any fictional character anniversary tributes we've ever seen (move over, Disney)!
For the first time ever, Barbie even had her very own runway show at New York Fashion Week's Fall 2009 show on Valentine's Day! How adorable! The show featured a who's who of over 50 designers who sent models down the catwalk in everything from swimsuits to evening gowns. The show opened with Rachel Roy and closed with House of Field in between, some favorites were Nanette Lepore, Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa, Catherine Malandrino, Diane VonFurstenburg, Tibi, Betsey Johnson and Badgley Mischka.
